Designed in 1952 by the 2nd generation Carl Auböck, this paperweight egg is made from solid brass in the original cast, in the same Viennese workshop that the first generation Carl Auböck founded in the late 19th century. Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus, was known to keep one on his work desk having received it as a gift from Carl.
Carl Auböck II (1900-1957) was one of the very few Viennese art students who attended the early Bauhaus in Weimar. He brought back to the Vienna workshop, the ideas which had taken his painting into abstraction. The knowledge and skill within his small family workshop became the foundation for the ideas from the Bauhaus, to be translated into three dimensional brass objects.
Now into the fourth generation, Carl Auböck VI continues to produce these wonderful items for a new century.
Dimensions: 6.5cm/2.5" x 3.75cm/1.5" (l x w)
