Mourne Classic Throw, Granite, by Mourne Textiles

First woven in the 1980s, the Mourne Classic blanket showcases the enduring appeal of traditional craftsmanship, brought to life in a lightweight tweed fabric. Inspired by the rugged beauty of the Mourne landscape, this iconic design features a palette of soft blues, greens, apricots, and golds—reminiscent of the natural hues found in bawneen wool, historically used in fishermen’s and labourers’ waistcoats.

The texture of the Mourne Classic fabric is achieved through a unique combination of yarn weights, unevenly threaded through the warp, which creates a tactile, textured surface that feels rich and warm to the touch. Designer Gerd Hay-Edie likened the fabric’s rhythm and tonal shifts to the ebb and flow of the tide—capturing the essence of the ever-changing Mourne Mountains and coastline.
