Another Country believe that considered furniture begins long before timber meets the hands of a maker. It begins in the forest with the quiet, essential work of sustainable forestry and ethical land management.
Each piece we create reflects our deep respect for nature and the craft traditions it inspires. Every table, chair, or side cabinet is made from natural materials that have been responsibly sourced, often from forests managed with care and intention. Our approach is one of timeless appeal, but also of purpose. That’s why we support organisations like Woodland Heritage, a charity championing sustainable woodland practices in the UK.
We are also proud to be a certified B Corporation, a recognition of our commitment to using business as a force for good. As a B Corp, we meet the highest standards of environmental and social responsibility, transparency, and accountability, an ethos that is reflected in every stage of our work, from forest to final product.
What Is Sustainable Forestry?
Sustainable forestry is the practice of managing forests in ways that maintain their biodiversity, productivity, and ecological processes. It ensures that timber harvesting is done in balance with regeneration, so forests remain vibrant for generations to come.
In an age of deforestation and mass production, sustainable forestry offers a regenerative alternative. It focuses on long-term forest health, including soil quality, wildlife protection, and carbon sequestration making it a crucial part of the fight against climate change.
For furniture makers, sustainable forestry means working with wood that is not only renewable but also ethically and traceably sourced. It’s not about taking from nature, but working in harmony with it.
Our timber sourcing approach
Another Country source our timber with the utmost care and consideration. The wood we use is sustainably certified or PEFC® and comes from responsibly managed forests in Europe, North America, and the UK. This broad sourcing strategy allows us to select the best material for each design while maintaining our environmental standards.
Whether it’s oak from Portugal, ash from North America, or native hardwoods from British woodlands, every timber we choose is selected for its quality, traceability, and minimal environmental impact. This commitment to responsible timber sourcing is central to both our sustainability values and our design philosophy.
Why ethical land management matters
Responsible sourcing is only part of the story. How the land is cared for before, during, and after trees are harvested matters deeply. Ethical land management considers the entire ecosystem: the trees, the undergrowth, the wildlife, and even the communities who live near or work within the woodland.
Well-managed woodlands improve biodiversity, reduce the risk of flooding, and support rural economies. In the UK, native broadleaf woodlands are particularly important, they are rich in heritage and home to species found nowhere else.
By supporting woodland health and sustainability from root to workshop, we ensure that the material integrity of our furniture is matched by its environmental integrity.

The role of Woodland Heritage
The Woodland Heritage is a UK-based charity that shares our belief in a full-circle, sustainable approach to woodland care.
Founded by a group of furniture makers and forestry professionals, Woodland Heritage seeks to bridge the gap between those who manage the woods and those who use its materials. Through training, education, and research, they promote practices that protect woodland ecosystems while also supporting skilled craftsmanship.
One of their key initiatives is the Woodland to Workshop programme, which helps bring high-quality British timber from managed woodlands directly into the hands of furniture makers. This not only reduces reliance on imported hardwoods but also encourages a deeper connection between maker and material, a connection we hold dear.
By partnering with Woodland Heritage, we support a more circular and transparent timber economy, one rooted in shared responsibility and long-term thinking.
Made in the UK and Portugal with care
Once our timber is sourced, it is shaped into furniture in workshops located in the UK and Portugal. These are small-scale, expert-led operations that uphold the same high standards of craft and environmental stewardship that guide our sourcing.
Manufacturing close to home reduces emissions, improves quality control, and ensures we remain closely connected to the people who make our designs a reality. It also reflects our belief in supporting local economies and honouring the skills of traditional furniture makers.
Every joint, curve, and finish is crafted with patience and precision, allowing the natural character of the wood to shine through.
Design that lasts a lifetime
Another Country’s aesthetic is defined by simplicity, utility, and natural beauty. But behind every clean form lies a deeper value system. We design with longevity in mind both in terms of physical durability and timeless appeal.
A piece that lasts 50 years uses fewer resources than one that is replaced every five. That’s why our focus on sustainable forestry, ethical land management, and responsible timber sourcing is not just an environmental stance, but a design principle.
We believe that sustainability is a standard. And it informs everything we do.

Regenerative design
Sustainable furniture design must look beyond form and function. It must consider the entire lifecycle of an object from the way materials are grown and harvested to how they are used, maintained, and eventually recycled or biodegraded.
This is the heart of regenerative design: giving more than we take, and designing systems that restore rather than deplete. In this sense, every sustainably crafted piece is a small act of renewal.
Our use of certified, traceable timber, our support for UK woodland charities, and our manufacturing partnerships in the UK and Portugal are all part of this commitment.
Thoughtful roots
There is a growing recognition that our forests are not just sources of material, but vital ecological and cultural assets. With the increasing demand for sustainable, traceable wood, the role of UK woodlands and those who manage them is more important than ever.
We are proud to be part of this conversation, and to contribute, however quietly, to a better way forward. By supporting Woodland Heritage and working closely with ethical forestry suppliers, we show that beautiful, lasting furniture can also be part of an environmentally responsible and socially conscious supply chain.
When you choose Another Country, you are not just choosing timeless furniture. You are choosing an approach that values craft, community, and the careful stewardship of the land.
