What it means to be B Corp

We’re a certified B Corp!

.
As a purpose-driven business, we’re absolutely thrilled to be an official B Corp, further validating our founding ethos of building a company which prioritises planet over profit.

B Corp is the gold standard certification for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. The ‘B’ in B Corp stands for ‘benefit for all’ and means we are now part of a global community committed to using business as a force for good. Becoming certified is further confirmation of this, and being part of the B Corp community means we stand shoulder to shoulder with other like-minded businesses such as Patagonia, Finesterre, Farrow & Ball and our friends at Naturalmat who align with our values, while at the same time learning from each other to reap the rewards of shared expertise.

As a manufacturer, we are so proud to have achieved an overall impact score of 96.8 as well as being recognised for an Impact Business Model (IBM) for land and wildlife conservation, a rare recognition awarded during the B Corp process. Having an Impact Business Model means creating positive social and environmental impact beyond our company’s operational impact. The certification process is rigorous but we have always considered our impact on the planet. For us, sustainability has always been the driving force behind Another Country.

Since 2010, we have endeavoured to produce our product and run our business at the most sustainable level possible. We have continually strived to improve how we make, design and source our materials, working with our long-established workshop partners in the UK and Portugal. And as you would expect, all our products are made from sustainably-harvested timber from either European or North American forests. We pack products using as much recyclable material as possible and deliver directly to customers via our London-based warehouse.

We have been proudly carbon-neutral since 2020, pioneered the development of natural upholstery materials in our armchairs, daybeds, seat pads and sofas by UK-based specialist partners many of whom are B Corp certified. At the same time we have championed the concept of a healthy home, one that is free of volatile chemicals often found in mass-production.

Every other aspect of what we do is also considered. Our energy is supplied by a green energy supplier, we offer a repair and restore service for our furniture to ensure each piece is made to last. We plant more trees than we use and continue to support a variety of planting and biodiversity enhanced projects across the UK including our longstanding partnership with nature-based charity Heal Rewild. In addition to this, we are a proud member of the Woodland Heritage, a charity which champions the good use of home-grown timber from sustainable, productive woodlands.

For us sustainability is a never-ending journey and becoming B Corp certified is another proud moment for us – joining a global movement of like-minded businesses pushing for change and striving for a better future.
